It is easy to create a custom transponderlist to use with a Dreambox. I used this with a Dreambox 500 C and Dreambox 800 C HD PVR cable tuner. It could also work with other DreamBox models, but that I'm not sure of.
  1. First gather the information regarding the used transponders and their frequencies on your cable network. You can retrieve this information from your cable company. Dutch cable viewers can also use this website or this website to find out about the transponders.
  2. Next, open up notepad and copy/paste the following text in notepad:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="iso-8859-1"?>
<cables>
  <cable name="Ziggo Cogas Oldenzaal (9004)" satfeed="true" flags="9">
    <transponder frequency="441000000" symbol_rate="6875000" fec_inner="0" modulation="3"/>
    <transponder frequency="627000000" symbol_rate="6875000" fec_inner="0" modulation="3"/>
    <transponder frequency="635000000" symbol_rate="6875000" fec_inner="0" modulation="3"/>

This is the transponderlist for the Ziggo Cogas cable network in Oldenzaal, The Netherlands (network ID 9004). You can simply replace the name attribute in the cable node to anything you would like. Next, create a transponder node for each transponder used on your cable network. You can remove or add lines as you need.

Save this notepad file on your desktop using the filename cables.xml

Use an FTP client like FileZilla to connect to your Dreambox. You can log in using username root and password dreambox.

When using a DreamBox 500C: upload the cables.xml file to /var/etc
When using a DreamBox 800C HD PVR: upload the cables.xml file to /etc/tuxbox

Restart your Dreambox (you must do this or your cables.xml will not be loaded!!)

Press menu on the remote control.

Depending on the type of DreamBox you're using (500 or 800), follow the steps below:

DreamBox 500C

Press Menu button on the remote control

DreamBox500-Setup-Tuner1.jpg

Go to option 5: setup.

DreamBox500-Setup-Tuner2.jpg

Go to option 2: Search for services.

DreamBox500-Setup-Tuner3.jpg

Go to option 1: automatic scan.

You should now see the name you provided in the cables.xml file in the cable node. Press OK on the remote control. Also verify that your Dreambox is receiving signals from the cable network. You can confirm this byu checking the SNR and AGC values. They don't have to be 100%. As long as they're more than about 80% it will probably be fine.

Press the green button on the remote control to start scanning.

It will now scan each transponder you specified in the cables.xml file and will eventually show you how many channels were found.
