With Windows 8 having reached its final milestone (RTM), let's have a look at how we can use the great DVBLogic product under Windows 8 Media Center. Follow the steps below to install the DVBLogic Network Connect client on a Windows 8 machine.

  1. First, be sure to enable Windows Media Center within your Windows 8 installation. See this article on how to accomplish this.

  2. Download the DVBLink Network Client

  3. Extract the contents of the downloaded zip package and run the dvblink_network_client.msi installer

  4. Next-next-finish through the installer

  5. Press the windows key, type "dvblink" (without the quotes) and click on the DVBLink Client Configuration link at the left

  6. Click on the OK button to dismiss the initial popup

  7. Enter the IPv4 address (IPv6 is not supported) or DNS name mapping of your DVBLogic server in the Address field and click OK

  8. It may take up to a minute before the next screen will be displayed, showing all the channels that have been retrieved from your DVBLogic server. Click OK to close the DVBLink Client Configuration.

  9. Start Windows Media Center by pressing start, typing "Windows Media Center" (without the quotes) and clicking on the Windows Media Center icon at the left.

  10. Go through the initial Windows Media Center configuration (express option will do for most people) and navigate to the extras library to open it

  11. Execute the dvblink app. If you don't see the dvblink app here, something must have gone wrong at step 5. Try it again and watch carefully if it succeeds.

  12. Execute the Synchronise channels option

  13. Click OK to dismiss the notification

  14. Click on the green round Windows icon at the top left to return back to the main menu and navigate to TV \ live tv setup to start the virtual tuner configuration

  15. Since the live tv setup wizard is really obvious, I won't go into details here. Just go through it and follow the steps. Note that DVBLogic is now delivered with 8 virtual tuners by default. Tip to go through configuring these 8 tuners quickly is to select the first tuner and keep pressing enter repeatedly until all 8 tuners have been configured.

As with Windows 7, PlayReady installation will fail. This is normal and nothing to worry about. Just select No to not keep in the endless failing loop.

  16. You should now be able to watch live TV through DVBLogic in Windows 8 Media Center.
